Peru's national soccer team coach Ricardo Gareca on Tuesday affirmed his squad's goal is to play at the highest level in the upcoming friendly matches against the Netherlands and Germany this week.

The strategist stressed the team's challenge has been renewed and will always be important. As is known, he had led the Incas to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

"Representing a country like Peru denotes a constant challenge. That has not changed (...)," Gareca expressed.

"Again, the challenge is important, leading a national squad, as well as the magnitude and exigency required to work with one, always drives us to push ourselves to the limit and give our all," he added.

On the other hand, Gareca underlined the fact that the Inca country's supporters have been nominated for a FIFA Fan Award

"I hope they can win. It would be a very important achievement for Peru," he said.

Likewise, the Argentine pointed out the fan base has been recognized not only for cheering on their national squad, but also for the respect they had shown during soccer's mega event.
