In 2018, three of the top five destinations for
were Asian countries. China held the first place, followed by South Korea (fourth spot), and India (fifth), the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) informed Tuesday.
According to Mincetur, in the last eight years, Peruvian shipments to Asian nations have increased significantly.
"The expansion of exports to Asian countries is mainly underpinned by higher mineral shipments, but also by
non-traditional products, whose participation increased from 8% in 2010 to 11% in 2018," Mincetur said.
Between January and November 2018, shipments to
China expanded 15%, reaching US$12.147 billion, thus marking a historical record.
This outcome was driven by greater sales of gold (+69%), which represent 90% of total shipments to that country.
It should be noted
exports to Japan —which held the sixth position— have also posted a good performance.
Shipments to this nation increased 20.5% (US$1.983 billion) in the aforementioned period.
