Peru Libre presidential candidate Pedro Castillo on Sunday called on Peruvians to actively participate in today's runoff election and for the entire population to remain calm.

The 51-year-old teacher made these statements at his home in the Cajamarca town of Chugur, where he had breakfast with his family.

"I call on the Peruvian people for sanity and also thank them for giving me the opportunity to be in this democratic process," he expressed.

Castillo pointed out that "Peru must win above all," and apologized if during the campaign he got carried away at some point by exaltation.

The candidate noted that "whatever the results," people must think of the families who have the least.

"You do not have to think about personal interests or money, but that we all feel good, as a family," he emphasized.

He also addressed Peruvians residing abroad, urging them "in a peaceful environment to do everything possible to return (to Peru)."

"Let's try to live better every day, let's try to share what little we have. From the humility of our family we have understood that if we do not share, we will have done little or nothing as human beings," he said.
