Peru: Callao Court renews search, arrest warrant against former governor

13:03 | Lima, Jul. 16.

Callao Region's High Court on Tuesday renewed the search and arrest warrant against former Callao Region Governor Felix Moreno.

The same order has been issued against Eber Ramirez, Jose Luis Casado, Oscar Peña, and Marco Palomino —former officials of the region in 2011.

The current arrest warrant against Moreno and the ex-officials was going to expire on July 18.

In January, they were sentenced to five years of prison for collusion and incompatible negotiation crimes against the State due to the sale of the Oquendo Estate in 2011.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Moreno took advantage of his post as regional governor in order to favor "Estefanía S.A.C." real estate company by selling the 70,030 m² estate under an undervalued price.

On the other hand, the Judiciary ordered an 18-month preventive detention against him, over alleged money laundering and influence peddling offenses.

It should be noted Moreno is a fugitive from justice since last January when he was sentenced to five years in prison for the felony comprised in The Oquendo Estate Case. He did not attend the audience on that occasion.
