Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez on Friday will receive his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Government Palace in Lima. The Brazilian leader is on a state visit to our country with a delegation of Brazilian business leaders.
At the invitation of President Alan Garcia, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva arrived late Thursday in the Peruvian capital to make an official visit to Peru on December 10 and 11, in the context of the Brazilian Week in Peru.
The Presidents will hold a working meeting to go over issues such as border, highway and energy integration, trade, technical and educational cooperation, in addition to regional themes of interest.
President Lula is scheduled to arrive at 09:30 am in the Presidential Palace, where he will be given an official welcoming ceremony with full military honors at the Palace’s Honor Courtyard.
After reviewing the troops, the national anthems of both countries will be sung and then the two leaders will head for the Ambassadors’ Hall to hold their official presidential meeting.
The Presidents will also take part in the inauguration ceremony of the cooperation project to establish the Brazilian-Peruvian School.
They will be present at the signing of the Brazil-Peru Business Council Statute and take part in the closing session of a business seminar to be attended by over 350 businesspeople from both countries.
They are expected to sign agreements regarding border integration, in addition to technical cooperation projects in areas such as zoning in border areas, coffee and cocoa production in the Peruvian Amazon, the fight against organized crime and the environment.
The Peruvian president will host a luncheon in honor of visiting President Lula at the Great Banquet Hall.
At 15:20, both leaders will attend the closing ceremony of the Peru-Brazil Business Seminar at the Swissotel.
This is the seventh meeting between the two Heads of State as part of their efforts to strengthen trade and economic rapprochement between their countries. Both governments are promoting road integration between Rio Branco (Brazil) and Puerto Maldonado (Peru) and the development of hydropower projects as well as bilateral trade.
Trade exchanges between Brazil and Peru went from US$ 724 million, in 2003, to US$ 3.3 billion in 2008.
