Since the early hours of Monday morning, Andina News Agency has observed a significant reduction in public transportation in Lima and Callao, amid a strike called by a sector of transport operators in solidarity with the murder of a driver and extortion affecting the sector.
At locations such as Ovalo Santa Anita and the Puente Nuevo Bus Stop, large groups of passengers were seen waiting for transport units.

"I have been here for over an hour and not a single bus has passed," said a passenger trying to get to work.

Given this situation, the Peruvian National Police (PNP) deployed 28 official buses across different areas of the capital to transport citizens for free and ensure they reach their destinations safely.

Additionally, over 2,000 agents participate in the Amanecer Seguro (Safe Dawn) Operation, conducting motorized patrols and providing security at bus stops and main avenues.

At the same time, the PNP reported the burning of tires and a roadblock on Tupac Amaru Avenue, near the Punchauca bus stop in Carabayllo district.

Police are present in the area to restore order and ensure free movement.

Meanwhile, buses from various transport companies have remained parked along the Panamericana Norte (Northern Pan-American Highway), near the Ovalo Habich in San Martin de Porres district, from north to south, with the aim of forming a caravan to the Congress of the Republic.

International Transport Industry Chamber Director Martin Ojeda reported that 90% of public transport companies have decided to keep their vehicles in garages for a 24-hour period on Monday.

"This day is dedicated to all drivers who have passed away. It is an act of solidarity and peaceful protest against the wave of extortion and murders hitting the sector," Ojeda stated, reiterating that there will be no blockades or pickets, only a symbolic shutdown of engines.

Among the companies complying with the measure are Consorcio Via, Z, Los Loritos, Vitusa, Lipesa, Nueva America, Urbanito, Huascar, Santa Catalina, and Los Chinos. They operate mainly in the northern, southern, and eastern outskirts of the capital.

Ojeda added that this strike is a response to the murder of driver Daniel Jose Cedeño. It occurred on the night of Saturday, October 4, in San Juan de Miraflores, Lima, while he was on his route for the company Lipesa.
