More than 13,000 people in vulnerable situation were assisted by the
in the regions of Apurimac, Arequipa and La Libertad, the Defense Ministry (Mindef) reported on Monday.
Mindef specified that brigades of the Armed Forces and rapid response teams mobilized to care for citizens most at risk from the new coronavirus: older adults and people with chronic diseases.
The response teams were composed of members of the Ministry of Health, Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), regional health directorates, together with local and regional governments, Peruvian National Police, and National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci), among other institutions.
Of the total of 13,218
vulnerable people who underwent detection tests, 4,365 were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. Thus, they received primary care and medications in accordance with medical prescriptions, in addition to essential products for their corresponding isolation.
In La Libertad region, the districts served by Tayta Operation were La Esperanza, El Porvenir and Huamachuco. In these jurisdictions, COVID-19 tests were conducted on 6,344 vulnerable citizens and 2,600 (40.98%) were positive.
Similarly, in
Arequipa, 3,643 vulnerable people were served in the districts of Cerro Colorado, Cercado and Paucarpata. The result was 1,408 positive COVID-19 cases (38.64%).
In Apurimac, the provinces of Abancay, Andahuaylas, Chincheros, Cotabambas, Grau and Antabamba were intervened to screen 3,231 people and 357 were diagnosed with coronavirus (11.04%).
Apart from these latest mega-operations in Arequipa, Apurimac and La Libertad, 183 interventions have already been carried out since June 1. Of these, 69 were conducted in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, 103 in the interior of the country (provinces), in addition to 11 regional mega-operations. The result exceeds 122,000 vulnerable people treated, with 30% positive cases.
