International media has been captivated by celebrations for the centennial anniversary of the scientific discovery of Machu Picchu, which gathers a number of local and foreign celebrities.


Europa Press details the excitement and the festive atmosphere at the city of Cusco, as well as the concern of the Peruvians to preserve Machu Picchu.

In turn, British BBC published in its website a photograph of Machu Picchu taken by National Geographic from the early 20th century, highlighting the phrase “rediscovery”of the sanctuary by US explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911.

Spanish newspaper La Marca published Thursday a long article titled “Mitos y verdades sobre el hallazgo de Machu Picchu” (Myths and Facts about the discovery of Machu Picchu).

Chile’s ‘El Mercurio’ highlighted the participation of the Chilean group “Los Jaivas” in the centennial celebrations with two concerts scheduled for July 7 and 8 in the city of Cusco.

In addition, Chilean ‘La Tercera’ noted in its website that today’s main ceremony, which will be attended by Peruvian President Alan Garcia and several personalities, will be broadcasted live on La Tercera TV.
