The high-ranking official provided details about His Holiness' upcoming visit to Peru, announcing that a Grand Thanksgiving Mass will be held at Las Palmas Air Base, where a large gathering of citizens is expected.
Asked by the press about the coordination efforts and the security required, the minister said they are already working out all the details with the Apostolic Nunciature.
"Peru is making all the necessary resources available so that this visit is a complete success, and we are committed to logistics, transportation, and organization," he stated.
The government official explained that all Cabinet members, along with President Keiko Fujimori herself, are excited about the Pope's arrival in several Peruvian cities.
Minister Espa said the visit will be a great expression of unity among all Peruvians, as well as of the feelings of both gratitude and joy they share toward His Holiness.
"We are sure the papal visit will be a great success," Espa underscored.
Regarding El Niño phenomenon, he said the issue is a priority for President Keiko Fujimori.
The minister also lamented that the previous administration had done nothing to carry out the necessary prevention works.
