The Director General for Asia and Oceania at the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Fernando Quiros, held a working meeting with the Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean of Japan's Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Motoyuki Ishize, to address the main issues on the bilateral agenda.

Both officials highlighted the dynamism of the bilateral relationship, which spans over 152 years, in the political, economic, cooperation, and defense sectors.

Likewise, they expressed their commitment to continue strengthening the friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries.

The Peruvian side proposed holding the 4th meeting of the Bilateral Political Consultation Mechanism in Lima in the first half of 2026, as well as coordinating activities to commemorate next year the 10th anniversary (2016–2026) of the Peru-Japan Strategic Partnership.

On another note, both parties reiterated their commitment to continue advancing the implementation of the measures set out in the 2024–2033 Roadmap to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

This instrument was adopted by both countries' heads of government in November 2024.

For 2026, special emphasis will be placed on implementing commitments related to strengthening political dialogue, commercial exchange, investments, cooperation in science & technology, and defense, as well as people-to-people relations.
