2020 elections: EUEOM chief observer meets with heads of electoral bodies in Peru

European Union Election Observation Mission (EUEOM) Chief Observer Leopoldo Lopez has met with heads of the National Election Board (JNE), the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), and the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC).

The gatherings took place Monday in the Peruvian capital Lima.


Likewise, the EU official gathered with ONPE and RENIEC chiefs Manuel Cox and Bernando Pachas, respectively, to discuss the conduct of the electoral process.

The EUEOM chief observer arrived last Sunday joined by the EU Electoral Observation Mission's core team. 

EU observers have arrived since December 17 last year to be deployed across all regions of the Inca country.

It must be noted that the European Union has deployed this mission in response to an invitation by Peruvian authorities.

 
24,799,384 Peruvian citizens are eligible to participate in the upcoming elections both in their home country and from abroad.

The new 130 legislators will serve the remaining period of the 2016-2021 legislative tenure, following the dissolution of Congress.
