Two goals by Peruvian striker Andres Mendoza gave the Columbus Crew a 3-0 win over the New England Revolution in front of 16,295 fans at Gillette Stadium Saturday night.

Dilly Duka added a second half goal, the first of his MLS career, and goalkeeper William Hesmer registered the shutout with three saves, the 42nd of his MLS career.

The win assures Columbus a spot in the MLS playoffs, Philly Soccer News reported.

Mendoza scored his 12th of the season in the 31st minute directing a pass from Emilio Renteria by New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth to make it, 1-0.

Duka widened the Columbus lead in the 59th minute converting a loose ball that the New England defenders could not clear.

Mendoza scored his 13th of the season in the 63rd minute to make it, 3-0. Renteria added his second assist of the match on the play.

Mendoza’s output brings him into fourth position in the MLS goal scoring race.

The win gives Columbus a 13-12-8 record for 47 points and third place in the Eastern Conference. New England falls to 5-16-12 for 27 points in last place in the MLS East.
