The Vatican confirmed on Wednesday that Pope Leo XIV has granted an audience to the President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, scheduled for May 11, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

This message was shared through the Ministry's official account on the X platform.

"The Vatican confirmed that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has granted an audience to the President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, scheduled for May 11. The occasion would allow the Head of State to personally convey the invitation and share the fervor with which the Peruvian people await his visit," the post stated.

As previously reported, the Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP) announced that Pope Leo XIV would travel to Peru between November and December, following the release of the results of the recent visit by Peruvian bishops to the Vatican.

During that press conference it was indicated that the papal visit is 80% assured, noting that a diplomatic and organizational process needs to be completed.

In that regard, it was reported that the official invitation has already been extended by Peruvian authorities and by the CEP.

Leo XIV —Robert Francis Prevost— was born in the United States but also holds Peruvian nationality.

He spent much of his life on missions in the South American country, eventually becoming Bishop of Chiclayo.
