Trujillo to celebrate its founding anniversary on March 4

The city of Trujillo, capital of the La Libertad Region in northern Peru, will celebrate for the first time its founding anniversary on March 4th.

Among the activities scheduled for this week are artistic and cultural shows, which include the dramatization of the Trujillo’s foundation to be held at the Municipal theater.

On March 4, the central day, there will be a huge festival, where “Los Hermanos Yaipen” international orchestra and other musical groups will delight people with their hit songs. 

On March 5, there will be a mass in the cathedral as well as a civic-military parade in the Trujillo’s main square, a typical dishes exhibition and tasting and a gala concert with the local symphony orchestra.

Trujillo was one of the first cities founded by Spanish conquerors in America.

On December 6, 1534, Diego de Almagro founded the city under the name of "Villa Trujillo," in honour of Francisco Pizarro's birthplace, Trujillo in Extremadura, Spain. 

On March 5, 1535, Pizarro officially founded Trujillo under the name of “Ciudad de Trujillo de Nueva Castilla, delivering 31 plots to the first neighbors.
