Lima will once again capture the world's attention by
hosting The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2026, widely regarded as the most prestigious event in international gastronomy.
The awards ceremony will take place on November 4, consolidating Peru's status as a must-visit destination for gastronomic tourism.
He said the event will showcase the country before a global audience of chefs, critics, specialized journalists, and industry opinion leaders.
Speaking to Andina news agency, Guevara said hosting the event represents a milestone for Peru by further strengthening the position of its cuisine as a strategic asset for the country's promotion abroad.
He noted that staging an event of this magnitude will place Peru "in an international showcase of enormous reach" and establish Lima as the epicenter of global gastronomic tourism.
The PromPeru official explained that the ceremony will bring together renowned international chefs, culinary experts, specialized media outlets, and leading figures from the gastronomic industry, who will travel to the Peruvian capital to participate in a series of activities leading up to the event.
In addition to discovering Lima's culinary offerings, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the South American country's cultural richness, native products, and diverse tourism destinations.
"Hosting a high-impact and internationally prestigious event such as The World's 50 Best Restaurants confirms that Peruvian cuisine is a strategic asset for the country's international promotion," Guevara stated.
The arrival of hundreds of specialized visitors will generate a significant economic boost for sectors such as hotels, restaurants, transportation, commerce, and tourism services.
According to the PromPeru head, the positive impact will be reflected not only during the event days but also in the international exposure the country will receive as a gastronomic destination.
In this regard, he noted that Peru has already earned a strong culinary reputation thanks to restaurants such as Maido, named The World's Best Restaurant in 2025, and Central, which received the same distinction in 2023.
Combined with the hosting of the international event, these achievements will further strengthen the country's image in tourism markets.
Peru Mucho Gusto to tour the country
As a prelude to The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2026, PromPeru will hold new editions of the Peru Mucho Gusto gastronomic fair to further promote the nation's cuisine and tourism destinations.
Guevara said the first event will take place in Tacna from July 25 to 28, where a large turnout of domestic and international visitors is expected, particularly from Chile.
The fair will then move to Lima from October 29 to 31, at a large venue in the Magdalena del Mar district. The calendar will conclude with an edition in Ayacucho on December 8 and 9.
Guevara emphasized that these fairs not only boost exhibitors' sales but also stimulate the local economy by benefiting hotels, restaurants, businesses, and other tourism-related services.
An event with global impact
The 2026 edition of The World's 50 Best Restaurants will feature a broad program of activities, allowing attendees to discover the richness of Peruvian cuisine.
These include the #50BestTalks forum; the 50 Best Signature Sessions, bringing together leading international and Peruvian chefs for collaborative dinners open to the public; the Chefs' Feast, highlighting the country's traditional ingredients and culinary techniques; as well as gastronomic tours and the official awards ceremony.
The experience of previous host cities demonstrates the impact of this event.
During North America's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 in Las Vegas, 92% of guests stayed at hotels or serviced apartments, generating more than US$750,000 in revenue for said destination.
In Rio de Janeiro, the 2025 edition of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants generated an advertising value equivalent of US$40.8 million.
Meanwhile, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, held in Seoul, recorded 82 million interactions and 4.1 million video views.
In turn, the 2024 edition of Middle East & North Africa's 50 Best Restaurants, held in Abu Dhabi, reached an estimated audience of 6 billion people.
Against this backdrop, Peru expects The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2026 to further strengthen its position as a global gastronomic powerhouse while serving as a platform to attract more visitors, promote its products, and reinforce its image as one of the world's leading culinary destinations.
