Restrictions imposed on Cusco-Ollantaytambo train service due to rainy season

14:07 | Cusco (Cusco region), Jan. 3.

Railroad operator PeruRail on Friday informed of the restrictions imposed on its Cusco-Ollantaytambo train service throughout January this year in order to avoid future landslides that may be caused by heavy rains.

The said train service will operate only from and to Ollantaytambo station, the company said in a statement.

According to PeruRail, the provision applies to all tourist services provided by the company and complies with a notice made by Peruvian rail firm Ferrocarril Transandino, or Fetransa.

Said notice restricts rail traffic between Cusco and Pachar Ollantaytambo during the rainy season as a security measure, because of the instability at Pomatales ravine.

As a result, local trains 21 and 22 will not run from San Pedro and Izcuchaca stations and will only operate on the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu-Hydroelectric Plant route and the other way around.

Meanwhile, cargo and baggage services will continue to be offered from San Pedro station and as long as weather conditions allow the passage of trains through the Pomatales ravine.
