To strengthen connectivity from Canada to Peru, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) has been working on various promotional actions in collaboration with the airline Air Transat.

A business round was held on June 8 where local companies met with 10 Canadian tour operators from the cities of Montreal and Toronto to showcase and offer the entire Peruvian tourism options.

This marketplace was held as part of a familiarization trip organized by PromPeru. Thus, local businesses, whose representatives often cannot travel to Canada, were able to establish direct contact with these companies.

This event was attended by PromPeru Tourism Promotion Director Maria del Sol Velasquez, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted our diversity.

"Peru is not only nature, history, and gastronomy; its people and their friendliness make you feel at home. Thank you all for coming and getting to know our country. I am sure you will fall in love with it," Velasquez expressed.

Air Transat Sales Manager in Peru, Jhadyd Gonzalez, delivered a speech as well.

Gonzalez highlighted the direct flights from Montreal and Toronto to Lima and the importance of our nation for the Canadian industry.

He also noted that in November 2024 (Canada's winter season), the airline will add another flight frequency from Montreal to the Peruvian capital.

The meeting concluded with a signature class on Pisco Sour and Ceviche, where the attending Canadian tour operators learned more about our cuisine and how to prepare these iconic dishes.

International strategy

The fam trip organized by PromPeru has been taking place from June 8 to 16, focusing on the luxury, adventure, culture, and community tourism segments.

These Canadian tour operators will have the opportunity to visit Lima, Ica, and Cusco regions.

Familiarization trips and business rounds are part of our international strategy to promote tourism and strengthen commercial relations with key countries.

In this regard, Canada is an important market for our country.

In 2023, Peru registered a total of 2,524,658 international tourist arrivals, of which 46,733 were Canadians, meaning a 15% growth compared to 2022.
