President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that Peruvians do not want authorities confronted with one another but to work together to defeat COVID-19 and create the right conditions for the economic reactivation and well-being of the population.

The Head of State reported that during the meeting with the Council of State and Congress Chairman Manuel Merino, he gave a long explanation regarding the country's situation in terms of health, economy, justice-political reform, as well as social programs.

According to the President, it was a long day that included a frank, direct, and honest talk with the Congress Chairman for about an hour.

During the meeting, he (President Vizcarra) expressed disagreement with the impeachment motion, which in the end was rejected by Congress, adding that he had turned the page because the correct procedure is to work together.

"Peruvians do not want authorities confronted with one another, Peruvians want authorities to be united, working for them. In fact, not only authorities, but institutions, private companies, and civil society," he stressed.

The President reiterated that he will work in a united fashion to defeat COVID-19 and generate adequate conditions for the economic reactivation to create sources of employment and well-being for the population.

"We reaffirm our commitment today, once again, as we did yesterday in a meeting with the Congress Chairman and Council of State members. Therefore, we continue working for Peru," he added.

Remarks were made after participating in the delivery of two oxygen plants at Luis N. Saenz Hospital of the National Police, which will improve the care of police officers and their relatives.
