The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday announced that the citizen immobility (curfew) measure that had been in force since 2:00 a.m. today in the capital Lima and neighboring port city Callao is no longer in effect.

"I must announce that the curfew is no longer in effect starting now; we now call on the Peruvian people to keep calm," he said during a meeting with spokespersons of parliamentary groups at Congress.

Moreover, the Head of State remarked that the Government cannot support attitudes that go beyond the constitutional right to protest, such as blocking highways or attacking private property, which are situations that have arisen in recent days.

The President had proposed a dialogue with Congress for this weekend in order to work together on a legal solution to the current political situation.

"We are creating space to work on and find a legal solution, and the duties of the Executive Branch will be fulfilled immediately," he stated.

The top dignitary remarked that State ministers and Congress' commissions should participate in said dialogue.

"Let's sit down to talk in every platform, with each Congress’ commission; State ministries are present here," he said.

President Castillo noted that the measure adopted on Monday, which declared total immobility (curfew) in Lima and Callao, "in no way means going against the people, but protecting the health and life of our compatriots."
