on Monday highlighted the role of neighborhood councils, stating that with a renewed role, better tools, and the right incentives, they will be able to contribute more to prevention efforts in the fight against citizen insecurity.
"We have with us an army of good neighbors, good citizens committed to prevention efforts to fight citizen insecurity," Jeri stated in Cañete, where he is carrying out a work agenda.
The top official said the Peruvian State must now provide them with different support and more tools, as was done when he was in Congress, although it is still not enough.
"We must give them a new role, provide the tools, and truly recognize the preventive work that neighborhood councils represent," Jeri stated.
"We need to give it greater focus, a major commitment, because I am fully convinced that if you have the right tools and incentives, you will be able to contribute more to preventive efforts," he added.
"We are counting on you, who deserve all the support from the (Peruvian) State," the President said during a meeting at the Lima South Police Region headquarters in Cañete district, where schoolchildren were also present.
To the youth, the Head of State said they are the country's future and present.
Likewise, the top official noted that everyone should live under good security conditions.
"You are the future authorities; we have to think about proper development, and the State must invest in infrastructure and better conditions for studying. After finishing school, university or technical education is essential," he pointed out.
In this regard, President Jeri said the Government has a firm commitment to combating insecurity and crime, unlike in the past, which is why it has shifted from a defensive to an offensive approach in the fight against criminal activity.
"Only together will we be able to safeguard the present and build the future. It is the responsibility not only of the government but of all Peruvians. We must protect our present so that the future is inherited in the best possible way," he expressed.
President Jeri is carrying out a work agenda in Cañete that includes the 4th National Citizen Security Council (Conasec).
