The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, stated on Wednesday that people without proper documents are not welcome in the country.

"In very specific, concrete cases, certain measures must be established based on international humanitarian law, but the general rule is that any person without proper documents is not welcome in our country," he underlined.

The President emphasized it is important for Peru, based on its national interests, to maintain control within its territory and prevent irregular migration that could contribute to creating chaos.

In this regard, the top official argued that what matters is to properly safeguard the borders within the framework of the declared state of emergency.

"If a state of emergency is declared, it is to ensure full compliance; no type of error can be allowed," he pointed out, referring to the incidents at the border with Chile involving migrants attempting to enter Peru unlawfully.

Regarding this, the President mentioned that internal disciplinary measures will be taken within law enforcement agencies.

He said the state of emergency remains in force, adding that the work assigned at the border will not be halted.

At another point, the President assured citizens that the 2026 General Elections have been called and that the Executive Branch guarantees their transparency.

"The elections have been called, and the electoral bodies have received most of the budget they requested. We, as the national government, are providing the security measures that have been requested; thus, there is no element preventing the elections from being held properly, transparently, and freely," he concluded.
