In his first statement to the press, the new President of the Republic, Jose Jeri Ore, called for calm and tranquility among the population, in addition to stating that the country's priority means working to combat crime.

"I call for calm and tranquility. We must work precisely to combat crime, which is the number one priority at this moment and reflects the public sentiment," he said when approached by reporters on this morning before entering his home in Lima.

In his inaugural speech, the top official emphasized that public insecurity constitutes the country’s main challenge. He also called for immediate action on this issue.

Last Thursday, four impeachment motions against Zegarra Boluarte were primarily based on the argument that her government had not done enough against public insecurity in Peru.
