The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, on Thursday held a meeting with Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General, Albert R. Ramdin, during which the Head of State reaffirmed Peru's commitment to working closely with international institutions.

During the dialogue, the top official highlighted the Electoral Observation Mission's work in Peru, aimed at safeguarding democratic processes and ensuring respect for the will of the people.

Likewise, he underscored Peru's interest in technical cooperation against transnational organized crime, with a view to strengthening the capacities of Peruvian institutions in the government-declared fight against crime.

The President also emphasized that Peru is a relevant actor within the Inter-American System.

He added that the South American country promotes a stronger, more technical, more predictable, and legitimate system that protects human rights without ideological positioning.

In this regard, the Head of State expressed his willingness to continue cooperating with the competent bodies—the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights—under a technical, legal, and depoliticized approach.

At another point, the top official noted that Peru hopes Venezuela will soon achieve the political and economic stability needed for the full restoration of democracy and its institutions, following efforts by the United States aimed at rebuilding democratic institutional frameworks.

In this regard, Jeri highlighted the recent release of Venezuelan and foreign political prisoners.

Furthermore, he expressed the expectation that this process will continue until it is completed.

Moreover, the Head of State indicated that the current context represents an opportunity to strengthen the OAS' role as the region's main political forum.

He added that the organization is called upon to promote dialogue, consensus-building, and collective action, as well as to strengthen cooperation in addressing shared challenges, including transnational organized crime and the migration crisis' humanitarian impacts.
