on Tuesday evening highlighted the Peruvian National Police's role during the 39th anniversary of the creation of the PNP's Special Operations Directorate (Diropesp).
Within this framework, the top official stated that Peru needs a police force that is prepared, united, and firm.
"Therefore, on this 39th anniversary, I want to tell you something very simple: Peru needs you. It needs you prepared, united, and firm. It needs you to respect the law and the rights of all citizens," Fujimori expressed.
Accompanied by Interior Minister Cesar Astudillo and the police high command, the Head of State highlighted that Diropesp is an institution that is part of the homeland's history.
For nearly four decades, it "has demonstrated that serving Peru requires courage, discipline, and, many times, being willing to give one's own life."
The President recalled that the Special Operations Directorate was established on August 25, 1987, when terrorism was striking Peru and threatening the peace of millions of citizens.
Likewise, the Head of State paid tribute to the law enforcement agents who lost their lives while serving in the line of duty as members of this elite unit.
"Their sacrifice reminds us that the freedom and security we defend today come at a price, and that we must never forget those who paid that price with their own lives," Fujimori indicated.
She also recalled the sacrifice of Commander General Marco Puente Llanos, after whom this police headquarters is proudly named.
Furthermore, the top official reaffirmed her Government's commitment to continue strengthening the PNP by providing it with better capabilities, tools, and conditions to fulfill its mission.
During the ceremony, President Fujimori awarded the Distinguished Action Decoration to PNP Major Alexander Livisaca.
Moreover, she presented the Distinguished Action Promotion Awards to PNP Second-Class Non-Commissioned Officer Florentino Chambi.
In turn, Interior Minister Cesar Astudillo highlighted Diropesp's work during the most difficult years in the country's history, when Peru was under attack by terrorism.
He emphasized that this elite unit confronted this perverse threat with dedication and sacrifice, recalling more than a hundred police agents who gave their lives fighting terrorism in its various forms, as well as organized crime and drug trafficking.
The ceremony began with a minute of silence in tribute to those who gave their lives as members of this elite unit.
The PNP Special Operations Directorate (Diropesp) was created to establish a specialized structure for the direct fight against terrorism in its various forms, as well as to combat organized crime and drug trafficking.
It serves as a specialized body that contributes to social peace and internal order.
