President: China has become Peru's top trading partner

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday affirmed that China has become the top trading partner of Peru and one of its main investors.

According to the Head of State, it will allow the nation to achieve the main objectives outlined such as the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and economic reactivation.

As part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and China, the President highlighted the cooperating ties uniting both peoples.

"The People's Republic of China has become Peru's top trading partner and one of our main investors. These ties have been strengthening since we elevated our relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has invigorated high-level dialogue as well as exchanges in the cultural and academic fields," Mr. Castillo expressed.

In a video posted on Twitter, the Head of State stressed that his administration has a firm commitment to continue advancing in this fruitful relationship in favor of both peoples.

The top official reiterated his appreciation for the received cooperation and expressed confidence that it will be deepened, which will contribute to achieving the objectives set in Peru such as: the firm fight against poverty; economic reactivation; as well as building a more just and equitable society.

Furthermore, the President stressed that the process of consolidation of the bilateral relationship officially began on November 2, 1971. Moreover, he emphasized that the deep ties uniting Peru and China are rooted throughout our history.

"I want to highlight the leading role of the People's Republic of China in the global fight against the pandemic, boosted by the values of solidarity and cooperation, and being one of the main vaccine producers worldwide," Mr. Castillo expressed.

"China joined our efforts to face the pandemic; its admirable development, great achievements in the fight against poverty, as well as advances in areas such as technology, innovation, and connectivity, constitute important opportunities," he concluded.
