The sole official Instagram profile of the new Pope Leo XIV has surpassed 30,000 followers in its first hour of existence and has already published its first images from this week as pontiff.

The verified account @pontifex – Pope Leo XIV will succeed that of his predecessor, @Franciscus, which will remain available for consultation of his past posts.

The Supreme Pontiff has already published his first series of photographs on Instagram, which have also been shared through a 'story.'

The post shows several moments from these first days of his pontificate, such as his appearance in St. Peter's Basilica following the conclave's white smoke, or when he went to pray at the tomb of the Argentine pontiff in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major.

He also accompanied it with a passage from his first speech to the faithful after his election, translated into nine languages.

"Peace be with you all! This is the first greeting spoken by the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd. I would like this greeting of peace to resound in your hearts, in your families, and among all people, wherever they may be, in every nation and throughout the world," he wrote on Instagram, in English first.

This first post has accumulated hundreds of comments and more than 20,000 'likes.'

Leo XIV has decided to maintain an active presence on social media, and in addition to this Instagram profile, he will continue using the pontifical profile on the social network X, @pontifex, which has about 52 million followers among all accounts, divided into nine languages.

This will be his only official profile on the former Twitter, where in recent days fake accounts have proliferated.
