Archbishop Guillermo Elias, chairman of the Commission for Pope Leo XIV's Apostolic Visit to Lima, announced this, noting that it will be one of the central events on the Holy Father's agenda in the capital.
According to the archbishop, the Supreme Pontiff will arrive in Peru on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 11, from Argentina.
His Holiness will initially carry out official activities, including meetings with the host country's top authorities and the diplomatic corps.
The following day, November 12, he will begin his pastoral activities in Lima.
His agenda will include meetings with bishops, priests, religious men and women, and representatives of pastoral councils at the Archbishop's Palace in Downtown Lima.
He will later take part in an event called "All Voices," where—according to Archbishop Elias—His Holiness will address various realities facing Lima and Peru.
"The Pope will shed light on the labor world, the world of suffering, social issues, and everything related to corruption."
Meeting with youth
That same day (November 12), the Holy Father will arrive at the Monumental Stadium in Ate to meet with young people from different parts of the country.
Archbishop Elias highlighted Leo XIV's ability to connect with youth during his public appearances.
The gathering at the Monumental Stadium is thus shaping up to be one of the best-attended events of the apostolic visit.
On August 25, the Vatican Commission responsible for coordinating Pope Leo XIV's apostolic trips visited Monumental Stadium, home of Universitario de Deportes soccer club.
The delegation evaluated the venue as a possible site for a large-scale event featuring the Supreme Pontiff during his visit to Peru.
Archbishop Elias said preparations for the visit in Lima have made significant progress following the arrival of the Vatican commission.
"The advance team from the Vatican arrived, and we have already coordinated practically everything," the archbishop said.
The Lima commission is organized into nine subcommissions responsible for different aspects, including infrastructure, venues, protocol arrangements, the meeting with young people, and the various events planned.
A visit with messages for Peru
The Holy Father's agenda in Lima also includes activities related to the relics of Saint Toribio of Mogrovejo, as part of the 300th anniversary of his canonization, as well as meetings that will seek to give a voice to various realities in the country.
The Lima commission has presented these preparations under the slogan "Leo XIV Returns Home," referring to the years the current Holy Father carried out his religious mission in Peru.
One of the activities planned for the end of his visit is a large Eucharistic celebration at Las Palmas Air Base in Lima's Santiago de Surco district.
The pontiff—born Robert Francis Prevost—served as a missionary and bishop in Peru for several decades, forging close ties with Peruvian communities.
His apostolic visit to Peru is scheduled for November 11–17. It will include activities in Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa.
The trip is part of a pastoral tour of Latin America that will include Uruguay and Argentina.
