Pope Leo XIV received Economy and Finance Minister Denisse Miralles during a general audience in Vatican City.

During the meeting, the government official acknowledged before the Supreme Pontiff the Catholic Church's contribution to education, healthcare, and social outreach in various Peruvian regions, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) reported via social media on Wednesday.

Likewise, the Cabinet member underscored the importance of coordinated work with civil society to strengthen territorial development and move toward a more equitable, just, and sustainable Peru.

"The occasion would allow the Head of State to personally convey the invitation and share the fervor with which the Peruvian people await his visit," the post stated.

Leo XIV —Robert Francis Prevost— was born in the United States but also holds Peruvian nationality.

He spent much of his life on missions in the South American country, eventually becoming Bishop of Chiclayo.
