Prior to his enthronement, Pope Leo XIV met with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte for an extraordinary audience in the sacristy of St. Peter's Basilica, where they addressed the well-being of the Peruvian people.

Accompanying the Head of State are Ministers Elmer Schialer (Foreign Affairs) and Juan Alcantara (Justice and Human Rights).

The inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV's Pontificate began on Sunday with His Holiness descending to pray before Saint Peter's tomb inside the Vatican Basilica.

The Pope arrived in procession carrying the pastoral cross and descended to the tomb accompanied by the Eastern Catholic Churches' patriarchs.

After incensing the site traditionally believed to be Saint Peter's burial place, he was crowned with the tiara and remained there for several minutes in prayer.

Earlier, Leo XIV toured St. Peter's Square in the popemobile for about half an hour to greet the faithful before returning to the basilica, where he was enthusiastically welcomed with cries of "Leone, Leone."
