affirmed that he "of course" wants to travel to Latin America and cited his wish to visit Peru.
Robert Prevost made these remarks in response to journalists as he left his residence in Castel Gandolfo.
His Holiness added that he would also like to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, as well as Uruguay and Argentina.
The U.S.-born pontiff —who is also a naturalized Peruvian citizen— explained that in this Jubilee year there are activities every day. He added that next year they will begin scheduling trips little by little, and exclaimed that he "of course" would like to return to Latin America.
"I would be delighted to travel," Pope Leo XIV said, adding that he would like to visit Fatima and Guadalupe in Mexico.
The Supreme Pontiff also revealed that Uruguay and Argentina are "pending," and Peru "of course" is as well.
For the moment, no trips have been confirmed.
The only international visit confirmed so far is the one he will make from November 27 to December 2 to Türkiye and Lebanon, two countries that his predecessor, Francis, had wished to visit.
There is talk within Vatican circles of a possible trip to several African countries, but nothing has been made official.
Robert Prevost has on other occasions openly expressed his desire to return to Peru, a country of which he is a citizen and where he spent more than 40 years, first as a missionary and later as Bishop of Chiclayo, a northern city.
