Peru's Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Wednesday announced that participants at the meeting held on Tuesday between members of the Executive Branch and the Congress Board and its parliamentary spokespersons agreed to work together on laws for the benefit of the country.
At a press conference, after a new Council of Ministers session, the Cabinet chief said that the abovementioned meeting, which saw the participation of the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo, took place in a frank atmosphere and addressed various issues that need to be solved.
"We are people with morals and ethics; we keep our word, and both parties have agreed to work together to make laws for the benefit of our country. Besides, we verbally agreed that teams at Congress commissions will coordinate with technical teams from the ministries to issue the most beneficial laws for the country," he affirmed.
Likewise, Mr. Torres indicated that members of the Parliament pledged to debate and approve the bills that may be introduced by the Executive Branch.
The high-ranking official said that he has always heard comments that the Executive Branch has not submitted initiatives, but he emphasized that 20 proposals have been presented to Congress, but the latter has not yet made any pronouncement in this regard.
The Prime Minister affirmed that one of them refers to the constitutional reform bill that seeks to strengthen governance and confidence between the Executive Branch and Congress, to reduce to its essential kernel of meaning the president’s impeachment for "permanent moral incapacity," which is a concept empty of meaning, as well as the question of confidence.
"These two elements have been used, one by the Legislative Branch and the other by the Executive Branch, and resulted in five presidents and three congresses in the previous five-year period, which was a horrible political instability that harmed us," he said.
In this sense, Torres expressed confidence that the initiatives submitted by the Executive Branch would be addressed by the Congress of the Republic.
