The State-owned hydrocarbons company, Petroperu, reported that the New Talara Refinery's flexicoking unit is operational and harnessing opportunities in the fuel market.

Similarly, it stated that the New Talara Refinery (NRT), one of the most modern industrial complexes in Latin America, operates normally, meeting the highest environmental and technical standards.

"In response to recent opinions about its operations, Petroperu reaffirms that the NRT has been designed to process both light and heavy crude, adjusting its feed according to market conditions to maximize profitability," the State-owned company underlined.

"Thus, when light crude is more profitable or priced similarly to heavy crude, its processing is prioritized due to its lower technical complexity," PetroPeru explained.

"However, when heavy crude has a significantly lower cost, the deep conversion unit (Flexicoking) allows this operational advantage to be efficiently utilized," it added.

Petroperu stated that, thanks to its advanced technology and high operational flexibility, the NRT can process a wide variety of crude oils, from the heaviest, like Ecuadorian Napo, to the lightest, such as West Texas Intermediate (WTI).

It specified that the choice of crude is strictly based on profitability criteria, allowing the refinery to adapt to market fluctuations and optimize its revenue.

"With 16 processing units and five auxiliary and complementary service packages, the NRT ensures the production of cleaner fuels, contributing to improved air quality in Peru and reinforcing its commitment to environmental protection," Petroperu pointed out.
