Peruvian State Attorney in the Lava Jato case, Silvana Carrion, affirmed that former President Alejandro Toledo would be arriving in Peru in the coming hours, according to information received from the United States.

"I understand that Mr. Toledo would arrive in the next hours, no later than two days. It is the information that has been reported to us," Carrion confirmed on Friday night.

The State attorney added that the former president will be transported on a commercial flight, adding that U.S. Marshals will be in charge of ensuring security during the transfer.

"He will arrive on a commercial flight and, given the immediacy and safety (required) for transfers, American authorities would finally be the ones to transfer him to our country, the U.S. Marshals," she indicated.

Thus, Toledo is expected to arrive at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport on Sunday morning.

Later, he will be evaluated to verify his health status and will be identified by the Peruvian National Police.

Former President Alejandro Toledo is already in the custody of United States authorities, as he turned himself in to them on Friday, to start the process of extradition to Peru where he is wanted by justice over corruption crimes.

Alejandro Toledo —who resided in the U.S.— is being investigated by the Peruvian justice for having allegedly received a bribe worth US$35 million from Brazilian construction companies to favor them in the bidding for the South Interoceanic Highway, while he was President of the Republic (2001-2006).
