The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday affirmed that his administration will not give up on delivering urea —a fertilizer intended for agricultural lands— to all fields in Peru "whatever the cost."

Mr. Castillo participated in the ceremony to lay the first stone of a project aimed at improving the irrigation water service in several Cusco communities.

Within this framework, the Head of State affirmed that "bureaucratic hands at ministries attempt to undermine the good intentions and decisions of this Government."

"We are going to make it a reality and deliver the urea, whatever it costs, to farms throughout the country so as to guarantee crops. A person, who knows (this matter), won't get vanquished because we know how the land is cultivated," he said.

Similarly, the top official indicated that a greater budget will be allocated to the agrarian sector —as Peru's agriculture was declared in emergency— so as to support farmers who had always stood by the country at critical moments.

"We —the men of the countryside, from Tumbes to Tacna (regions), the jungle, and everywhere— know how to work, and we are going to guarantee food for the Peruvian people," he expressed.

Congress

Moreover, the President called on Congress —within the framework of democratic respect— so that the next chair of that branch —once elected— can meet with Executive Branch officials "and put the country's major problems on the agenda."

"There is no other way but for us to sit down (and talk) with authorities. I am sure that the new Board (of Congress) will look at the country, because useless confrontation is not good for Peru," he affirmed.
