The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday was in favor of reopening borders in the region, as well as jointly facing common challenges and problems.

"We have to open the borders; we are going to start with Ecuador, very soon with Chile, with Bolivia, Colombia, (and) Brazil. There is a need to speak the same language," Mr. Castillo expressed during a meeting with Andean Parliament members.

"Latin America is our home; there are common challenges such as crime, drug trafficking, and corruption; we must reverse these problems from our spaces," he noted.

Likewise, the Head of State expressed his full support for the Andean Parliament and invited its members to hold the next meetings outside Lima, even in the farthest town in Peru.

"I am going to commit my Andean peers so that you will be seated together with us in the next Binational Cabinets so as to put the region's problems and challenges on the agenda," he added.

Furthermore, the top official highlighted the importance of walking together to boost sectors, such as agriculture, as well as providing basic services that many towns lack to date.

According to the President, the COVID-19 pandemic has opened a space for learning and commitment in the face of structural problems that must be reversed by this generation.

"On behalf of the Government, you have a brother President, committed," Mr. Castillo concluded.
