The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, stated on Monday that the threats made against her will not deter her Government's efforts to restore order and strengthen security in the country.

"I am not afraid, and I will not back down from all these efforts to restore order and ensure security in our country," Fujimori said.

"If they think that comments like that will make me back down, they are mistaken. And I believe my political career demonstrates that I will never take a step back," she added.

The top official specified that the Peruvian National Police is conducting the corresponding investigations into the audio recordings broadcast by various media outlets and that the case documentation has already been forwarded to the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office).

"Throughout my political career, I have worked in adversity and faced attacks, but I have never backed down, much less now. On the contrary, we will continue working with even greater determination," she emphasized.

Regional and Municipal Elections

Regarding the Regional and Municipal Elections, the President expressed concern about the short transition period in those regions where a runoff will be held, especially those that could be affected by El Niño phenomenon.

"What concerns me about these runoffs is that the handover process, the transition process between the outgoing governors and the new ones to take office, will be quite short," she noted.

Faced with this situation, Fujimori called on the current regional authorities to prepare the handover process in advance, placing particular emphasis on jurisdictions exposed to rainfall or drought.

"The regions that could be affected by rainfall or drought are the regions that concern me most; from now on, they can count on the support and backing of the Central Government to carry out swift and streamlined transition processes and enable them to assume their responsibilities very efficiently," she pointed out.

The Head of State also called for caution regarding the initial results.

Similarly, the top official urged waiting for the completion of the official vote count before commenting on the elected authorities.

"The first thing I believe we should do is wait for the final results of the municipal elections with great responsibility and prudence," Fujimori stated.

"I will work with the authorities who are elected and whom the National Elections Board (JNE) declares the winners," she indicated.

In this context, the top official reiterated that her Government will coordinate with the incoming regional and municipal authorities regardless of their political affiliation.

"To the future authorities, I say from now on that we will work hand in hand. I will not look at political affiliations, because we, the three levels of government, have an obligation to work as one great team," she noted.

Request for legislative powers

Asked about the request for legislative powers submitted to Congress, the President said she hopes that in the coming days the Chamber of Deputies will expand the approved ruling and address the measures requested by the Executive Branch.

"I believe it is important to listen to the people in the streets and let them know that citizens also expect politicians to reach agreements so that they can grant this request for the necessary powers, enabling the Government to act more swiftly," Fujimori underscored.

Regarding her remarks that she is running out of patience over the delay in approving the legislative powers, the top official said her position reflects the views of citizens who have been waiting for solutions for several years.

"I believe that what I am doing is echoing and giving voice to citizens. Citizens have been waiting for many years for politicians to make decisions," she added.

The Head of State made these remarks during a press briefing after leading the ceremony to hand over 326 title deeds benefiting 1,304 residents of various human settlements, young towns, and other organizations in Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district.
