The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday affirmed that the Government will bring the national peace process to the last stage.

"We have already demonstrated it in the Patriot Operation. We will not allow terrorism to rise in the country," the Head of State said in the ceremony that commemorated the Defenders of Democracy Day.

At the event, he highlighted his commitment to cope with the absence of the State and fight criminal groups that force people to live in captivity, backwardness, inequality, and insecurity.

Additionally, Mr. Castillo urged Peruvians to remain united to overcome challenges and threats such as poverty, as well as existing health and education gaps.

In his speech, he remarked that his administration firmly believes that the development of a nation is the result of the efforts and unity of its inhabitants.

"There is no progress without peace and security," the dignitary pointed out.

Similarly, the President recognized the work performed by members of the National Police Special Intelligence Group (GEIN), as architects of the capture of Shining Path ringleader Abimael Guzman, which took place on September 12, 1992.

According to the top official, said capture, which is why Defenders of Democracy Day is commemorated today, marked the end of an era of terror in the country.
