Addressing more than 300 newly-elected province and district mayors from various parts of Peru, the
said his administration, through State ministries, will accompany them in the search for solutions to problems faced by their jurisdictions.
"This is an open-door government. You have the ministries willing to accompany (you) and provide solutions to (close) these gaps," Mr. Castillo expressed while addressing attendees.
The Head of State asserted that in his administration "there is more than political will" to support municipal authorities, since he knows the reality of Peruvian provinces and districts.
Unfinished public works
President Castillo pointed out that municipal and regional authorities will have to face the issue of unfinished public works, which represent an amount higher than S/26 billion (over US$6.5 billion), he said.
According to him, this demands joint work and unity by the three government levels (national, regional, and municipal).
"There cannot be a favorable response if it is not the outcome of this unity at three levels of government," he emphasized.
After congratulating the new mayors on their election, the Head of State pointed out that he shares the same stage with them, as they have all been elected by the people.
"We would not want corrosive voices in your towns to intend to look down on the election of any mayor," Mr. Castillo said.
To avoid this scenario, "work, dignity, transparency, and the fight against corruption" must prevail, he added.
Moreover, the top official called on elected municipal authorities to prioritize education and health. Regarding the latter, the president asked mayors to include this topic on the agenda, because "only education will save our country."
