Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday affirmed that COVID-19 figures in the country have seen a decline for five weeks, noting that restrictive measures to contain the spread of the pandemic have yielded results.
"A rebound (in COVID-19 figures) forced us to take new restriction measures in several regions throughout the country, and these measures have paid off," the Head of State remarked.
"The number of hospitalized, infected, dead and ICU patients has decreased in the past month," he added.
"We are witnessing a gradual improvement. This trend is going to continue if we all behave responsibly," he said.
The President urged the population not to be overconfident and to continue behaving responsibly because preventing infection does not depend on an institution or authority but on everyone's involvement.
He went on to note that the country may have several needs, but human beings and health must be put ahead of them to deal with the biggest health crisis in human history.
Mr. Vizcarra participated in the launch of an oxygen plant at Julio Cesar Damarini Caro Hospital in Chanchamayo, which he described as a symbol of unity, as it was made possible with the support of civil society and the leadership of the Catholic Church.
Remarks were made in Chanchamayo Province, where he pays a working visit to monitor the Government's efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic in Junin region.
