Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday announced that he has approved allowing economic activities on Sundays in the regions and provinces where there is no targeted quarantine against COVID-19, adding that nighttime curfew as of September 21 will start at 11:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 a.m.

According to the Head of State, the use of private cars will remain prohibited on Sundays. In this sense, whoever wants to go to a store or shopping center will have to visit one located close to home.

"As of this Sunday, (…) citizens will be able to leave their homes, only in the regions that are not under targeted quarantine, always complying with the restrictions that we all know: maintaining social distance and wearing a face mask, but without using private vehicles," he indicated.

"We are making the restrictions more flexible through a supreme decree that will be published tomorrow to make this announcement official. Although the restrictions will become more flexible in order to carry out trade-related activities and play sports outdoors, the prohibition on family or friend gatherings will remain in force," he stressed.

Curfew

Likewise, the top official announced that —as of Monday— nighttime curfew will begin at 11:00 p.m. instead of 10:00 p.m., as is currently happening.

"This will allow businesses to work one more hour (…)," he said.

Remarks were made during a meeting with representatives of the Association of Municipalities of Peru (AMPE), the Network of Urban and Rural Municipalities of Peru (Remurpe) and the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR).

The event took place at Lima Convention Center.
