Prime Minister Walter Martos on Saturday affirmed that there is no contradiction between President Martin Vizcarra's statements and what the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) said regarding the bidding process for the Lomas de Ilo project.

"There is no contradiction. Yesterday (October 16), UNOPS issued a statement to clarify its participation in the bidding process, and we will reiterate it so as not to confuse the population, because there are many people interested in giving a biased interpretation of said statement," he warned.

According to the Cabinet chief, the UN agency stated that once the Regional Government of Moquegua told it to tender the Lomas de Ilo project in 2013, the first thing it did was to establish the conditions and requirements in a transparent and complete manner, according to the principles of UNOPS.

Martos explained that once these conditions were set, tenders were evaluated based on the economic value (price) and considering the principles of transparency and integrity.

"Once they did the (bid) evaluation, they (UNOPS) entrusted it to independent specialized experts in Panama and Denmark to validate and guarantee the integrity of the process," he explained.

"That is what President Martin Vizcarra said and coincides with what UNOPS stated," the government official added.
