Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Sunday rejected a media report recently published by local newspaper El Comercio, questioning its veracity.
In addition, the Cabinet chief noted that he will turn to the Ethics Tribunal of the Peruvian Press Council.
"I categorically reject what has been stated in a news story by El Comercio. This false information can only come from corrupt elements who weave a network to politicize or divert attention and any investigation," Otarola posted on Twitter.
Otarola denied being involved in a tripartite call, adding that there was no mention of the subject referred to in the report.
He also noted that statements by EsSalud Executive-President Arturo Orellana confirm his version.
"There was no tripartite call or mention of the subject they refer to. El Comercio website records Mr. Orellana's statements confirming what I say. The lady who writes the news story should have done this to report the truth," the high-ranking official said.
In this regard, Otarola announced that he will take the case to the Ethics Tribunal of the Peruvian Press Council, consistent with his democratic convictions.
"Freedom of the press is not freedom to lie," he pointed out.
