Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez on Monday suggested Congress a new pact for the benefit of Peruvians, geared towards stability, democracy, and the changes that the nation demands.

During her presentation at Congress, the Cabinet Chief explained that it is a pact within the constitutional framework, based on common objectives in favor of equality, the fight against corruption, poverty reduction, and a fair economic reactivation.

Under this premise, Vasquez urged Parliament to work together for common guidelines linked to the recently-approved and published Government's General Policy.

The high-ranking official reminded lawmakers that the country is going through a difficult time due to the health crisis and political tension. Yet —she said— it is necessary to do much more as representatives of all Peruvians.

"It is up to us to be able to build together and steer the country towards governance and especially to collective well-being. The country is going through complex circumstances; indeed, but I think we all know that we are stronger than that," she pointed out.

According to Vasquez, her presence at Congress aims to respond to citizens' desire to achieve consensus and work tirelessly, since instability is not only negative for the still fragile democratic system, but also makes it difficult to implement the public policies urgently needed by the country.

"I trust in the good faith of the various political groups which —without the need to decline but rather to contribute from their ideological positions— I know will be able to have the willingness to dialogue so that the State, on its 200th year of republican life, can comply with the promise of equality and independence," she added.

As is known, Mirtha Vasquez officially became Prime Minister on October 6 to lead the Cabinet under the administration of President Pedro Castillo.

According to Article 130 of the Constitution, the Prime Minister must attend Congress joined by the Cabinet to present and debate the Government's General Policy —within 30 days after having been sworn in to office.
