Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Tuesday affirmed that the Government is working to ensure that Peru continues to be a safe country for investment in mining and other sectors.

"[…] because mining, I repeat, is the main driving force of the Peruvian economy and of improvement in the quality of life of all Peruvians," he said at Perumin 36 Mining Convention held in the southern city of Arequipa.

The Cabinet chief underlined that Peru is a mining country, and anyone who says the opposite is indulging in demagoguery.

In his speech, Otarola mentioned the progress made in the nine months since the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte took office, as well as the set of emergencies and protests that took place during said period.

In this sense, he addressed investors, entrepreneurs, and mining sector's workers to ensure public order and security in the country.

"We will not allow the country to slide into chaos, disorder, and insecurity," the senior official remarked.

He went on to say that the Government is fully aware that the primary mission is to bring the Peruvian society up to acceptable living standards that give citizens a chance to be what they want to be, with equal access to opportunities.

Single window

Moreover, the Prime Minister announced that the approval of the Digital Single Window will be included as the first item on the agenda of the Council of Ministers session of Monday, October 2.

"This decision signals the confidence in mining and the reduction of processes in order to be efficient," he noted.
