Peru's new PM: This Cabinet will be one of dialogue and consensus

00:07 | Lima, May. 16.

Recently-sworn-in Prime Minister Eduardo Arana stated that the Cabinet will be one of dialogue and consensus.

Within this framework, the Cabinet chief announced that within 30 days its members will present a work plan to be implemented during the remainder of the administration.

“If we had to name this Cabinet, it would be the Cabinet of consensus. We will talk with all political forces. In 30 days, we will present a clear work plan outlining what we will do during the remainder of President (Dina) Boluarte's administration," he stated at a press conference following a Council of Ministers session on Thursday evening.

Arana indicated that ministers speak of positive and tangible news, which are the outcome of effective government action and public policies.

"Now we will build on what has worked well and continue it. We will correct and innovate other activities," he noted.

Arana said the characteristics of this new Cabinet will be coordination; convergence; articulation with regional governments, civil society, and respect for the independence of the government branches, all guided by a decentralized vision.

Additionally, he stated that ministers will focus their efforts on resolving the nation’s problems in two key areas: citizen security and restoring the country to a stable economic situation.

"We will emphasize closing gaps, promoting public investment, and strengthening security," Arana expressed.

Likewise, the Prime Minister announced that meetings are being coordinated with political actors, civil society, and business associations to ensure that the country’s management is based on consensus.

"We are also in dialogue with the National Assembly of Regional Governments. Yesterday, I met with them and expressed our commitment to work together," he added.
