Peru's mining exports reached a record high of US$39.637 billion in 2021, a 51.6% rise compared to 2020 (US$26.146 billion), the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE) has reported.
In addition, it highlighted that mining exports in 2021 were even higher than pre-pandemic levels, because they recorded a growth of 39.9% when compared to 2019 (US$28.336 billion).
The energy mining association indicated that copper exports in 2021 amounted to US$20.698 billion, an increase of 58.7% from the same period in 2020 (US$13.039 billion).
On the other hand, gold exports totaled US$10.121 billion in 2021, posting a growth of 28.6% over 2020 (US$7.868 billion).
December 2021
The SNMPE reported that in December 2021, mining exports amounted to US$3.584 billion, up 15.1% compared to the same month in 2020 (US$3.115 billion).
It also indicated that copper exports in December 2021 totaled US$1.996 billion, which meant a rise of 27.6% from the same month in 2020 (US$1.565 billion).
The energy mining association explained that copper exports benefited from the 18.5% increase in the price of copper, and from the volume of shipments abroad, which registered an increase of 7.6% compared to December 2020.
