The Ministry of Culture (Mincul) and China's media conglomerate, Shanghai Media Group (SMG), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). It aims to promote and disseminate both countries' cultures in the heritage, artistic, and intercultural fields, as well as in audiovisual content creation.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries Minister Moira Novoa, on behalf of Culture Minister Fabricio Valencia, and by Shanghai Media Group Vice President Wu Qian.

The ceremony was held at the Gran Teatro Nacional (National Grand Theater) in Lima on Thursday.

The accord establishes a framework for collaboration in areas such as the arts, cultural heritage, media, and the creative industries.

Similarly, it will serve as a legal framework for future initiatives, including the organization of an exhibition on the Pre-Inca and Inca civilizations in Shanghai and another on Chinese civilization in Lima.

Additionally, it will facilitate the joint production of documentaries to be broadcast on both countries' public television networks.

At the ceremony, the Peruvian deputy minister underscored the significance of the agreement.

"This Memorandum of Understanding represents a concrete opportunity to open new avenues of collaboration in key areas such as cultural heritage, the arts, media, the cultural and creative industries, as well as digital innovation," Novoa stated.

"It will also allow us to carry out joint projects that bring Peruvian and Chinese citizens closer together, recognizing culture as a driver of international cooperation and sustainable development," she added.

First initiatives

Among the first initiatives, Shanghai Media Group has proposed filming a documentary on Peru's culture and tourism, which will include footage of attractions such as Lima, Machu Picchu, the Amazon, and the Pre-Inca Chavin culture.

Following the signing, a bilateral meeting was held with representatives of the Culture Ministry, SMG, and the National Institute of Radio and Television (IRTP), "during which short- and medium-term joint initiatives were discussed," according to a press release.

Thus, the Ministry "reaffirms its commitment to intercultural dialogue and the strengthening of international cooperation for the benefit of cultural diversity and the development of the creative industries."
