"I hope that love for Peru and the patriotic spirit will prevail. As politicians, they must realize that they cannot be disconnected from reality," Espa stated in an interview with Willax Television.
The high-ranking official added that if the Government is denied the powers to tackle public insecurity, this decision will have consequences, as Peruvians want real solutions to a problem such as crime.
The Cabinet member reiterated he remains hopeful that parliamentary groups will reconsider their position and grant the Executive Branch legislative powers.
The Constitution, Rules and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies will meet on September 29 and 30 to present and debate the report on the delegation of legislative powers requested by the Executive Branch.
Asked about Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele's invitation to President Keiko Fujimori, the minister said such meetings will be productive, as they will provide an opportunity to learn firsthand about the policies implemented in that country to combat criminal organizations.
