Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer began his working trip to Paris, France, where he arrived on Sunday to participate in the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) as a sign of the South American country's commitment as a candidate for the organization, as well as the Government's commitment to the organization's principles.

This participation aims to consolidate Peru's presence in key forums that shape public policy for the benefit of citizens.

The 2025 MCM, held under the theme "Leading the Way Towards Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Prosperity Through Rules-Based Trade, Investment, and Innovation," will be held on June 3 and 4, with the participation of OECD member and partner states.

This forum contributes to positioning Peru's strategic interests, deepening economic and trade ties with various countries.

During his stay in Paris, the Peruvian minister will take part in events related to the MCM, such as the 17th Meeting of the International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean, and the high-level session of the 20th Meeting of the Steering Group of the OECD Regional Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Similarly, the diplomat will hold bilateral meetings with senior officials from participating countries and with representatives from international organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).

OECD accession process

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which has 38 member countries, works on the design and promotion of public policies in favor of citizens' economic and social well-being.

Peru, as an active participant in 14 OECD committees, was invited to begin the accession process to this organization.
