The official results of the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections (ERM) will be available once challenged electoral records have been resolved, pending vote recounts have been completed, and the electoral processing required to proclaim the elected authorities has been finalized.
The National Elections Board's (JNE) plenary set October 28 as the deadline for holding vote recount hearings in cases where they are required.
The conclusion of this stage will allow progress toward the resolution and proclamation of results.
JNE spokesperson Jorge Valdivia said the body expected to know certain results in early November.
However, the final date will depend on the resolution of challenged electoral records and any outstanding recounts.
The official proclamation will take place at the corresponding hearings once all the stages established under the electoral procedure have been completed.
Pending stages
Although the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has completed the processing of electoral records nationwide, cases requiring intervention by the electoral adjudicatory bodies must still be resolved.
The pending stages include:
- Resolution of challenged electoral records: The Special Electoral Boards (JEEs) review records containing errors or inconsistencies and issue the corresponding rulings.
- Vote recounts: The JEEs hold public hearings to recount ballot papers when necessary.
- Resolution of appeals: Appealed cases are referred to the JNE Plenary, which serves as the second and final judicial instance.
- Proclamation of results: Once the disputes have been resolved, the procedure for proclaiming the elected authorities is completed.
The rulings issued by the JEEs and the JNE Plenary must be sent to the Decentralized Offices of Electoral Processes (ODPEs) so that the corresponding processing can be completed and the information required for the proclamations can be submitted.
Challenged electoral records
As of noon today, 7,212 challenged electoral records had been received by the JEEs nationwide.
Of that total, 1,866 correspond to Metropolitan Lima and are pending resolution.
Citizens can check the progress of the review of challenged electoral records for the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections (ERM) at the following JNE link.
Vote recounts
A vote recount is a mechanism for resolving certain cases involving challenged electoral records.
During a public hearing, the JEE recounts the physical votes using the ballot papers kept in sealed envelopes sent by the ODPE.
Its purpose is to verify the vote count and prevent errors in electoral records from causing the unjustified annulment of a polling table or affecting the votes obtained by a political organization or candidate.
If a JEE decision is appealed, the JNE Plenary may review it as the second and final judicial instance.
Runoff election
The JNE scheduled the regional runoff election for Sunday, December 6, 2026.
This election will be held in regions where no candidate ticket for regional governor and vice governor secures at least 30% of the valid votes in the first round.
In that case, the two tickets that received the highest number of votes will compete, and the one that obtains a simple majority of the valid votes will be declared the winner.
A runoff election does not apply to municipal elections, whether at the provincial or district level.
In these cases, the list that obtains the highest number of valid votes wins.
